The Mexican Cultural Arts Center
Generations of immigrants have made South Omaha their home. They have come and still come from all over the world. Since the time South Omaha was its own city, immigrants have known a kinship that made this their community, their neighborhood, their home. Every new arrival brought with them, their customs and traditions many of which remain a part of church and community festivals, their varied foods and dishes that have made South Omaha cafes and restaurants the best eateries in the city, their colorful costumes, and of course their Polka music.
Ballet Folklórico Xiotal was born of an excitement in the dancers to share the beauty of their culture through dance. The choreography is authentic, the costumes are magnificent, and the dancers are impressive. Performances range from a musical jaunt through a few of the 32 Mexican states, Places like Jalisco, Nuevo Leon, and Zacatecas, each with their uniquely individual dance and costume, to a journey back to the Mexican Revolution to witness a dance of the Adelita’s as they march to war.
Each year has brought new arrangements, new costumes, and new dancers to the stage. It is with great pride that the Mexican Cultural Arts Center pleases its audiences with the very best in Mexican Folklóric dance.
